Twenty-Fifth Day of the Eighth Month, the Year of the Lord 2002

Tagline of the day:
"It all started with his Les Pauls', then one day, his flat and everything in it..."

The story starts on Friday night, when the Sonic Boss and Genshi decided to shop for computer parts. They walked around for about half an hour and decided, over a bottle of root beer (as recommended by Shai and Mineral earlier at St. Andrew's Cathedral), that they would pick out a SGD 500+ DIY set-up instead of picking a few pieces of computer parts. Because of the Sonic Boss' lack of knowledge in all areas, especially in computer hardware, Genshi had been commissioned to put the new computer together. Things were not so smooth and IDE connection problems keep coming up. The problem was not to be easily solved and definitely not the same night anyway. And so, the Sonic Boss extends an invitation to Genshi to come over the following day (and, inevitably, night) to fix the problem, being better equiped.

The Donut Boy and Keith Elliot were also staying over. Since the Sonic Boss and his love, Sueme, was in JB for some marriage workshop, Genshi, the Donut Boy and Keith Elliot had the whole flat by ourselves. Genshi said as he welcomes the other two in, "Welcome to my humble abode. The boss had sold me his flat. First, it started with his Les Pauls, now his home." All three who were there busied themselves with dinner, making fun of some possum, and thinking of slack/lame things to leave behind in the Sonic Boss' house. Things still weren't working out with the boss' computer.

Soon, hearing all the fun they were having over the crude jokes only guys make, Mineral and Brommy decided to join us. All of them enjoyed a few rounds of Contra and Duck hunt before settling down to watch Darth Vader cutting off Luke Skywalker's hand.

"*heavy breathing* Luke, I am your... MOTHER."

After finishing a tub of Haagen Daaz's Coffee ice cream, the first of three tubs, Mineral and Brommy left. Genshi goes back to work on computer but to no avail. (By this time, Jason was here.) After finishing Empire Strikes Back, Keith Elliot and the Donut Boy retired. Genshi had no choice but to go back and work on the computer again, having no clue on how to go on from there. The problem did not changed. In fact, a new problem arrived: floppy connection not working! Meanwhile, Jason was playing Metal Slug or some game...

Then, at around 2am on Sunday morning, Genshi decided to pick up this little book called "The New Testament with Psalms & Proverbs" and began to analyse the esoteric meanings to the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans. And as God would have it, Genshi, by mistake, pressed the F1 key and bypassed the floppy problem. The IDE connection problem disappeared. Genshi praised God by dancing without Jason, Keith Elliot's and the Donut Boy's knowledge. And so, even though the floppy drive couldn't get to work, other software could still be installed by CD-ROM. But on that fateful morning, Genshi had once again, witnessed the glory of our Lord Jesus. Hallelujah! Amen!

Morning: Keith Elliot does a damn lame impression fo a ghost to wake Genshi and Jason up. He received two fingers from Genshi. He accepted it without dignity. The whole lot busied themselves in packing the place up, leave lame messages for the Sonic Boss, and preparing to go to church...

Anyway, the rest is history... all glory and honour to the Lord, my God, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen! I can't be bothered to write anymore!

To all whom I have offended, lied to, or have taken advantage of:

Please tell me if I have done any form of injustice to you, and let me know what they are. I am truly very sorry for the offences I have caused against you. If there is anything I can do to win your forgiveness, please at least give me a chance to do so. I wish to make amends with anyone who bears a grudge towards me. Please tell me if I have done you wrong. I will do all to make right the things I have caused to go wrong. Please.

I put this in writing only because I don't know how else to reach out to you. I knock on your door and you refuse to open. I call out your name and you closed your ears. I repent of my wrong-doings but you see none of it. I am a fool, so please tell me what mistakes have I made.

3 MORE DAYS TO ORD *Diabolical laughter to evil to write out*

Me: "Ay! Recruit! You A-level student, right? Your England veli the powderful, right, huh? How do you spell the word 'ordinary'?"
Recruit: "O, R, D -" *interrupted*
Me: "ORD loh!"

Lazy to do recording
Over the last few months, I've become lazy to do any recordings. Recording my sets on MD seems like a very boring task. It's annoying because I have to keep thinking about perfect mixes, peak levels, sound quality, mixing and what not at any one time. I worry too much when I do recordings and sometimes I wonder about those days that seemed so many years ago, when I did a recording a day. Amazing, huh? You must be wondering why I'm going on about my recordings now. Please let me humbly explain.

After I ORD, my income source (SAF) disappears. I do intend to save up some money before going to Melbourne next year. Therefore, I need a job. *DUH* I can do many things but after careful consideration, I realise that DJing is the highest-paying profession among them - if I manage to get a residency in this big club. Now, this 'big club' I'm talking about is pretty famous (no, not Zouk, although I don't mind holding a Zouk residency, but that's another story altogether). But in order to get a fighting chance into residency there, I'll have to at least submit a demo DJ mix... a very, very good mix! No demo, no job. Got demo, maybe got job. And so now you know why I need to do a demo now... and I've just being trying to do one before I wrote this blog. It was a botched attempt.

I suppose I can write for JUICE Magazine, but I'm reluctant because Keishi is already doing that, I think, aren't you, Kei? So the idea would be unoriginal. Maybe I should think about it seriously. But then maybe JUICE won't be able to pay me nicely. Oh, I don't know. Frankly, it's just for the money (aw, Chris?! - Ed).

Got off work early and went to do DJ workshop at St Georges' - the last of all the worshops. *phew* But only one potential DJ turned up. How disappointing. Nevertheless, we gave him a good tuition in the art of mixing. Very nice. I think he appreciated it a lot. Thanks to Johnny Gillett for having us there, and God for this opportunity to teach kids DJing in a safe community.

I still got a lot of work to finish up tonight so I'll end here again! Sorry.

Went out today at 11am+ and saw my doctor for a long-overdue appointment. The meeting went well and he told me that I've come a long way. This is another confirmation to how God has shone His Light in my once-lonely heart. I also did some filming down the Takashimaya stretch today and thought I bumped into someone I knew but only to realise that it was the wrong person. So embarassing!

SHORT STOP

"In my darkness, a small light shines brightly."

I just came back from a session of night shots. With the Canon XL-1, you can really control exposure even in dark areas. Sure, I haven't download the picture yet, but even with the viewfinder, which is oh-so-great, I already can see some great widescreen shots. Yes, today, all the shots I took were in 16:9 aspect ratio, the kind for HDTVs of the future and the same thing they are already doing for almost all movies playing in today's theatres. The shots are beginning to look professional. But then again, what can you expect when you have great equipment to play around with?

I found my New York Yankees cap today. Lost it for about 3 months or so. It's one of my favorite caps (besides my famous red Hershey's cap). It was a Christmas present from a good friend of mine who is studying in Brisbane. I feel very happy. Heeee...

I passed by an ad today. It was by the magazine Seventeen. I usually don't bother about bus ads but a caption caught my eye. It said: "What MTV VJ Utt and other stars did when they were 17". I laughed, of course, but I couldn't help thinking about the year I was seventeen. Suddenly, I realised that besides having a very short relationship, nothing happened in that year. Sure, I was going through depression, but really, nothing else happened. Like a flock of seagulls and that's it. So boring, my life is. Oh well.

NEW LOOK FOR THIS BLOG

Blogging is fun. There is no doubt about it. Little known fact: even our boss Glenn has a blog (private one). In any case, the old look for my blog is terribly boring and had some technical faults of which I have been unable to figure out. The fact is that I don't know very much HTML, and often wonder why people assume that I do.

Today is actually a slow day. Perhaps I should expect slow days in the next one week plus because I'm counting down to my ORD day. But as long as it takes, it's only ten days and that's still short. Many people stop and ask me when do I ORD and when my reply came, they would say, "Wow, so fast, huh." The truth is that I served my National Service as long as everyone else who has to do two and a half years! I don't understand how people can say that his "two and half years is shorter than my son's two and a half years". It's really funny, if you think about it.

I'll be taking leave on Wednesday and Saturday to clear what's left of my accumulated leave count: 1 & a 1/2 days! I am thinking of doing a shoot for the entire day but I will need people to shoot. People I can follow around and make stupid jokes and what not. Or people with serious acting skills. He he he.

The weather today: Rainy, with a touch of boredom

Tag-Board is down. iMood is down. These web people should buck up on their service, even if it's free. Because of our trust in them, they have responsibilities to make sure these things work. It's a real inconvenience for people like us helpless bloggers, you know.

Enough gripe. What did I get down to doing today? Not much. I ran around the house with the XL-1 again. Heh. I'm quite in love with it. It's a shame it's not mine. Went to Marcus; house in the evening to watch the NDP. It's okay this year. I like watching parades, although there's always that occassional screw-up during one of the commands. Didn't manage to catch Cheyenne (spelling correct?) on TV. Marcus' mom cooked us a nice little dinner, after which we watched Le Fabuleux destin d'Amlie Poulain. Marcus' dog is quite cute, though she is really biting around a little harder than she has to. Her nails should be clipped soon. After fixing the problems on Gordon's blog, we went home.

What's on for tomorrow, you ask? Don't really know. But I don't want to stay at home. I'll probably go downtown for real. I'm getting paid tomorrow anyway so I guess I got some money to spend now.

Today is a hot day and a wet day. And also a boring one. Ultimately nothing much happened today, so I can't sing "today is the greatest day I've ever had". I had wanted to go down town tonight to catch something on video but I don't feel like it. I feel like coming home to play play with Adobe Premiere some more, especially with last night's footage. If only I had this camera for the KL tour! XL-1 I want!

I'm planning to go downtown tomorrow. Don't know if I should bring the XL-1 or my Nikon still camera. Frankly, I just don't want to stay at home on a public holiday. Don't you think it's such a waste? I had a pair of free tickets to NDP. But I gave them away to a distant cousin during my grandad's funeral 2 weeks ago. So I won't be going to have a last look at my fellow inmates parading in the National Stadium. (hur hur)

Anyway can't be bothered to write anymore today. Check out some of the new links I've added on the left column.

PLEASE SIGN MY GUESTBOOK IF YOU HAVEN'T.

Hullo everyone. How's your day? It's been a nice one for me. Praise God (again). My friend's Canon XL-1 is a truly amazing piece of equipment. The optical image stabilizer can be put to good effect. I can actually use it for some tracking shots and not use a track or even a dolly! The viewfinder is damn solid. Thanks, Marc (not Marcus Wong)! I'll buy you dinner next week! Damn awesome. I actually managed some inspiring shots today!

Plain Sunset played alright tonight. I won't make a fair judge, though, on tonight's performance because I was sitting in such a weird angle. The Esplanade (the new durian-shaped theater along the River) is a nice place, pretty artistic. The durian building rules. But it's new, so the stench of construction lingers. The Esplanade gives one a classy feel about the performing arts. And so, I think the next time I'm going down, I'm obligated to dress with a bit of class.

Anyway, on the way back on my busride on 167, I went through the day's footage. After reviewing it, I noticed a big-size man sitting across the aisle staring at the camera. I was immediately on my guard. The whole time on the busride, I was keeping an eye on him (I switched sits so that I could look at him through the reflection of the windows). In the end, though, he didn't followed me down the bus when I alighted. What a relief! Praise God because I prayed to him on the bus too.

August is the month of payment, I guess. The money I owed to a few people since a few months ago have been paid back by yesterday. There are a few friends who owe me money but I don't intend to chase them because I take my time in paying back money to others too. Well, maybe it's because I owed my parents $2000 and only recently been able to cover that sum that now I have some extra cash to hand to my friends. Thanks for the loan, you sharks... hurs hurs hurs.

I'm still looking for a day job for when I finish NS. So if anyone has a good lobang for any cool job, please feedback to me. I will thank you with kisses (girls only) and dinners (both guys and girls).

What a day! I actually managed to stave off slumber the entire day with the help of two energy drinks. It's hard to keep awake during the day in the last one year or so since I got promoted. Sometimes, your subordinates can be so efficient that you can leave everything for them to do. Coming close to the end of my NS, I've come to the conclusion that I have good men under me, possibly better than I was when during my time as a private. And I wonder if I had been fair to them all these months. At least they still smile when they greet me. And they never questioned my orders, which I always put so nicely as 'requests'. But knowing that they are good men all the more makes me want to be involved in a combat unit than what I've been doing all this while. It's been too peaceful here. Idleness breeds bad habits.

It looks like this week won't be the week I'll be going up to KL for my photo essay. In my ridiculous financial plight, I can hardly afford to do so. But I promised myself that after my ORD, I will make it up there, even if it means I go there alone. I have also secured my friend's Canon XL-1 until Sunday, which gives me a lot of time to experiment. I still don't know what I want to really shoot. I've racking my brains for a worthwhile documentary short to do. Any ideas, people?

I saw myself in JUICE Magazine last night. It's nice to appear in public media again, after disappearing for almost a year from the dance music scene. I can't say I'm too keen to get back into the scene because it costs money and soon, my income will stop when I ORD.

I'm therefore looking for a job. The easiest thing for me to do (and also the thing that will earn me bigger cash than anything else) is DJing. But that will work only if I spin at big clubs. Yet, I think maybe it's not possible because big clubs like to hand out long contracts. I mean as small as it gets, it's probably a 6-month contract and I only have 5 months or so, before I go off to Melbourne for studies. My main concern about getting a job isn't about earning money though (altohugh some cash is always good), but to keep myself busy and in constant contact with the scene. Quiet days breed bad habits.

This coming week, I might be borrowing a Canon XL-1 from my friend for a trial run and plan to shoot somesort of short documentary. I've planned for a photo trip in the CBD this Wednesday and may be getting a printer at night. I have work on Thursday but I plan to do an evening shoot with the XL-1. Friday would be National Day but i have no plans yet. I don't count on being free the entire day. So maybe I'll take XL-1 out for a walk again. A day shoot. I also have Saturday off so I get to do more shooting.

Heaven and earth in ashes ending!

Oh, what fear man's bosom rendeth,

I'm so broke it's ridiculous! Seriously, after taking two bus rides home from work during lunch, I'm left with S$0.00! Nothing. And therefore, ALL MY APPOINTMENTS for this week is probably going to be cancelled. It worse than pathetic. It's simply ridiculous! Next pay this is on coming Saturday, so it's one entire week with NO MONEY! hehehehehe.... reminds me of the time when I lived in Sydney. Actually Sydney was much worse than this but I'll save that story for another day.

My dad says he'll get me an iBook, which is wonderful, because now that he's getting it, I don't have to save up for it, which is a damn lousy task for me. Initially I wanted a Sony VAIO SuperSlim, which is just about the best superslim Windows notebook I can find, but an iBook will serve my purposes much better than any PC notebook can, although much chunkier. It looks nice too, although I think the Sony looks fantastic too (so damn poseur). Hehe. Meanwhile, I'm also "trying" to save up for a Canon XL-1 video camcorder, which is listed to be SGD 6000.00. Well, good luck to me then.

The Official Chris Ong Date: 20 Days to ORD.. *chuckle*

- ALL FLOOBLE CHATTERBOXES ARE DOWN -

Nothing much happened in the day time. I slept through work as usual. In the evening, Rueben and I went to St. George's church near Gleneagles to carry out a DJ Workshop that's been going on for a month or so. Only 2 prospective DJs turned up and so the session had to be done like tutor-student style.

But nothing much else happened to day. God is good for the peace in me.

The Official Chris Ong Date: 21 days to ORD... *small chuckle*

Wednesdays are always good. I like Wednesdays. Wednesdays are days I see the people I usually see on Wednesdays. Today, I'm in a light mood. Perhaps lighter than the day before. It's also nice to see old faces appear again. Last night, I had been fortunate enough to receive an e-mail from a friend who I have not seen in three years. After coming back from Australia, I have been looking for a way to contact him, but not only now did I receive any word from him. It's not his fault. He had been trying to link up with me too. In any case, I thought I had lost him and now I've found him again. God is truly wonderful. My prayers have been answered again. Praise God.

Suelynn's Blog update: My heart goes out to that poor black cat. I find it unfortunate that there are still cats this sick in such a clean society. I love black cats (or cats that dress in black, for that matter). I once had a stray cat that would follow me up the driveway of my old house every night when I came home late. I would say, "We have chemistry, you know, you and I. This is your home." Now that I've moved to Spring Leaf, I often wonder what has happened to Kerosene (the cat). I had first found her drenched in kerosene. I took her to a nearby friend's house and cleaned her up somewhat and gave her some food. She was a wonderful cat.

September 11, 2002 is coming close. A few of my friends in America are getting all emo about it again. It was wrong of terrorists to have claimed the lives of so many that fateful day. When I heard about it in camp, I was more than shocked. At that point in time, I mourned and lamented on the lost of life. But looking back, I didn't like the idea that Americans should go all out to look for terrorists i the way they have done - killed more people. Just why do people think they can justify deaths with more deaths???

During the the recent weeks, I have noticed the sudden rise in death occurences among the elderly here in Singapore - my grandfather's included. One in my position cannot help but think about human mortality. We only live so long, you know. I am not emo now. I'm just thinking that we never know when we will die. And that's why I've been thinking about little things like how I would like my funeral to be, or whether, by the time I die, will I have led a life that was worth it. When I'm old, I will look back and ask myself: What have I done in my life that benefited mankind? Is there anyone I have offended? Will they forgive me? Will I forgive anyone who offended me? Have I given my best to God? Is God satisfied with my I have given with my life? Is God happy with me?

People die all the time. It doesn't matter how old they are. I could die tomorrow after being run down by a truck, you know. (It will take much more than just a car to kill me.) Then what? And I wonder.. because I haven't repented on all my sins yet. For example, I'm still smoking. Smoking is 'defiling the body, which is the dwelling place of the Lord'. I'm not ready to quit yet because I still love the cigarette. Marcus was just telling me that cigarettes don't taste good but it contains the nicotine that will hook you to the habit. I'm hooked. But I think it's much more than that. I LIKE the taste of cigarettes, awful as it may seem to some of you.

VCD: Band Of Brothers Episodes 1 & 2
Director(s): Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks
Comment: Great show. Great techniques. This is the beginning of THE miniseries that inspired me to venture into filmmaking. This miniseries is about the men of 507th Airbourne's (E-Z Company) during the Second World War. Historically very accurate. The screenplay is wonderful. No corny trash like those from Saving Private Ryan. But what I liked most was the use of the Steadicam technique. Aiyah... don't want to say too much. Go watch it. Download it off KaZAa or something. It's really fantastic. I'm so inspired. Can you handle that?

Time: Night
Green Velvet and The Rejects @ Zouk (www.zoukclub.com.sg): The experimental and eccentric, afro-wig-wearing entity we know as Green Velvet is the alter ego of one Curtis Alan Jones. With his flamboyant, over-the-top image, he stands out from the stoic techno scene like a drag queen at a Mennonite wedding. The green-haired, costumed freak, hedonistic techno superhero first appeared in '93 with the fiery Preacher Man. Developing a darker persona to his DJ personality - Cajmere, he has since disseminated club classics like Answering Machine, The Stalker, Flash, and his latest massive pop crossover La La Land. On stage, Curtis, along with his band The Rejects, is more than just about techno. Creating a fluid musical identity he calls 'techno punk', his theatrical live show wrecks havoc, passing brutal social commentary, lashing out sardonic humour, straddling between punk, rave anarchy and 21st century angst.
