AL

Layout for 'AL'.

I’ve been experimenting with some music-making on my Mac. It’s getting to be quite fun now that I know lot more than during my NS days. And my music tastes have changed too, of course . . . somewhat.

Talking about music usually entails talking about gear. Although I am praying for a MIDI controller and FireWire audio interface, I’ve already made some tracks on my own. Some of the sounds have been recorded from my Roland EG-101 and Rueben’s Kaoss Pad 2. But there is still a little MIDI from the Roland EG-101 routed through a Midisport 1x1 interface by M-Audio, which is the simplest method I can think of.

Send me a message for a copy of 'AL', one of the tracks I've made.

Tech specs for AL
Gear: Roland EG-101 for the melodic leads; Korg Kaoss Pad KP-2 for some effects; M-Audio Midisport 1x1 MIDI-to-USB intereface; Apple PowerMac G4; Ableton Live 5; Propellerhead Reason 3.0; Audacity 1.2.2.

Mosaic @ The Esplanade

Mosaic has been on at the Esplanade since last week. Vertical Rush was playing tonight but I missed it because I thought it was at another part of Esplanade. I felt so cheated. But it’s my fault. So there.

But we did observe some really strange phenomenon on the river bank.

I caught Ronin outside. Kind of a rock and roll band. They have quite a bunch of fans. About twelve of them were dancing while the band played.

Then Poptart came on. Poptart is a trio that DJs indie band music. They got a whole bunch of people dancing. By the way, that's Erlend Øye (Kings of Convenience/Electrolab) in the background of the pic. I don’t understand what’s so hot about him. Everytime he jiggles his scrawny little butt, the crowd goes wild. I suppose it’s really not my scene.

Anyway, I might be going to watch Deb Fung perform there tomorrow. Deb Fung performed at Sonic Festival last year.

The Ides of March

March 15 is ‘the Ides of March’. Who remembered studying William Shakespeare’s tragedy Julius Caesar? Julius Caesar died on the Ides (15th) of March in 44 BC. That’s like 2,050 years ago! So it’s like the 2,050th anniversary of his death. Interesting.

A picture of a certain pastor called Glenn Lim. It is a picture I took for his profile pic to be used for this year’s Sonic Festival.

Anyway, today is also the first time I led worship. Quite stressful, but it’s my first time la, so give me a break.

Photo Pirate

One day, a little girl came and stole my camera and had a field day secretly taking pictures of herself. She returned the camera later on and in it, she left a whole bunch of pictures I wasn’t aware of until a few days after.

I have been quite busy recently, and by the time I have any free time to blog, I’m usually a bit sick of staring at the computer monitor.

Some People

This photo only came in today.

It’s funny how some people pretend to be nice with you until you start being nice back to them. Very weird indeed, because once I start returning compliments (and I don’t overdo it), this person would suddenly ‘be on guard’, as if he suddenly regretted talking to me. Is he testing my reaction or what?

Because every time I talk to him, it turns out like this. He’d be nice in the beginning, aloof at the end. All I can do is just remain a nice guy to him.

To all the people who ever did suggest Goldfrapp to me, I’m sorry I dismissed your comments about how interesting they sound. I tried out Supernature today and I think it’s an awesome album. I’m inspired to do start a synth-pop outfit . . .

My dream vintage synth.

The Roland SH-09 is one of the synths Goldfrapp used in Supernature. Another interesting piece that they used is the Roland Paraphonic 505. I currently use Roland EG-101 at home, but I haven’t brought it out for any kind of performance yet. I think I won’t be integrating it into my DJ sets. But I plan to use it for live projects if such events ever come my way.
